Rise and Fall of Addiction
Vancouver Actor Bernie Coulson was once the toast of Hollywood . Then addiction got the best of him . Not that he didn’t try , he was in rehab seventeen different times. He ended up recently on the Downtown East side known for it’s homeless and drug addicted victims.
He went to Shaughnessy elementary then McGee high school in Vancouver . Super nice and brilliant at a young age. From the 1980’s he stared in the Pilot of 21 Jump Street with Johnny Depp then later The Accused with Jodie Foster and appeared in many local productions such as MacGyver , Psych, Da Vinci’s Inquest ,The X -Files , and Intelligence. Totalling 45 film credits to his name. Moved to Los Angeles and was at one time living with up and coming star Brad Pitt. How does someone fall so far when they have everything , fame fortune ? It’s called addiction and crack cocaine was his game. It can take over anyone. Recently Local News has documented his recent sighting here in Vancouver’s DTE ( downtown eastside) . Statistically over 100 thousand people have died in BC from drug overdose and lethal fentanyl since 2016. Yes Bernie has overdosed and figures he is lucky to be alive but thinks the system has failed him. Can’t get rehab he deserves ? Hmmm. Since 2021 the Province has pledged $500 million in new spending over 3 years to help people with mental health and addiction. The largest spent in BC history. This includes overdose prevention , recovery beds all supported by community based services to battle the opioid epidemic. Lets get Bernie the help he needs. We’re sure he could be a role model for others in his road to recovery .
